1978 / Showroom

This is the only photo of the 1978 Kenner Star Wars Toy Fair showroom that we have. It's also the only image in this gallery that isn't a Kenner file photograph. It was actually published in a 1978 issue of a now-defunct magazine called Future (issue #3). Although it's kind of unfortunate that a group of buyers is obscuring the display tables, one can get a good idea of how the '78 showroom was set up by looking at the image. You probably can't tell from this scan, but to the extreme left of the photo there is a table on which sits the 12 figure action display stand and a carded figure. Off in the distance, to the right of the image, are displayed what appear to be the Luke and Leia 12" dolls. It's a real shame that we can't see them more closely. And, of course, on the wall are displayed the larger action figure products, such as the X-Wing and TIE Fighters, Landspeeder and Death Star playset. Also notice that the blonde woman in the center of the crowd is wielding an inflatable lightsaber toy. You've probably noticed the R2-D2 to the left. I guess Lucasfilm loaned it to Kenner for the show.
