The unarticulated, meaning that they were molded in one immovable hunk of hard rubber, series of bootlegs is perhaps the bottom of the bootleg barrel, if there is such a thing. There were 27 different figures released in several different waves. This variety of bootleg can be broken into at least three different categories; those with standard Kenner limbs (17 different), those with Biker Scout limbs (8 different), and those with Tie Pilot limbs (2 diffferent). These figures are presumed to have been direct copies of 1st generation articulated bootlegs and/ or Kenner figures. These were cheap dime-store, bargain-bin figures sold for a fraction of their licensed counterparts, much like the Hong Kong unarticulated figures sold in most $1 stores today. Within each of the three categories there is a good deal of variety present. Several waves of each were released. Some were painted to look like their Kenner counterparts, some were painted in metallic silver and gold, and others were molded in colors that include dark and light blue, black, gray, brown; dark, flourescent, and olive green, pink, and red. Each color may even have strikingly different paint decos from others molded in the same color. In other words it is very hard to rope these figures into a category. Even roping the place of origin is no easy task. I’ve seen similar pieces come out of Poland, Hungary, and Germany.
