Revenge of the Jedi Proof Card Checklist
From the collection of Chris Georgoulias (chris@toysrgus.com)
This is the complete set of all fifty action figure proof cards featuring the Revenge of the Jedi logo. Since the title of the film was changed to Return of the Jedi before any toys were actually released, no packaging with this logo was distributed to stores. Like the first series Return of the Jedi packaging, the Revenge cards only account for the first 48 figures available at the time which did not include any Jedi characters.
There are two special cards in the Revenge series which are really unlike most other proof cards available. The first card is the R2-D2 "original" which was never released on Return of the Jedi packaging. Interestingly, both the nameplate and the Kenner logo are blank on this card. The final card in the series has been speculated to be the card for the original C-3PO since it too was never released during the Return of the Jedi era. This final card is only partially printed and has gone by several names such as the white card, the error card, and the template card. This card is really a unique specimen because it has remnants of an old Empire Strikes Back logo and only sparse printing. The printing for the Nien Nunb offer is doubled and offset which is why it has also been called the mis-strike card.
Most Revenge cards seem to have been printed in equal numbers, but certain characters sell better than others because many collectors only want a few examples. Since the distribution of these cards into collections isn't equal it's hard to determine if any are truly rarer (based on original quantities) than the rest. The Rebel Commander seems to have been the last card needed by several collectors, including yours truly. This card is possibly rarer than the other cards, but there is no definite proof of this.
The bulk of the Revenge cards in existence seem to have come from two original sources. These sources had about 900 cards between them which included only about a dozen sets consisting of 45 or more cards. A few hundred cards from various other sources have popped up over the years as well. However, it's been speculated that there are probably no more than 50 of each card in existence. That would bring the theoetical total number of cards to roughly 2500, but from my experiences I'd say that it was closer to 1500. The number of full sets out there is well under two dozen, but all these are tough number to nail down and believe me, I've tried. Revenge cards change hands very often and since few people opt to complete a set, they are spread out into many differnet hands which makes accounting a bear.
The cards are sorted in the chronological order of their figure's initial release during Star Wars or The Empire Strikes Back. Each card has the same back, which is shown at the end of the chart. The equivalent Return of the Jedi cardback can be found in the guide to cardbacks section.
