Film Can for Early Pre-Release Film Print of "The Star Wars": This may look kind of underwhelming, but it's actually a pretty significant piece of Star Wars history. It's a film can that at one time housed an early print of a little film that was at that time called "The Star Wars."

Here you see a closeup of the label. It's marked "May 2," just a few weeks prior to the film's grand opening in 1977. You'll also notice that it's marked "Industrial Light and Magic," the name of Lucasfilm's in-house effects company. Was the reel that was once in this can used for some type of post-production effects work? Could have been.

At any rate, it's a fanastic piece, and it's great to know that it's survived.
