Micro Collection Pilots-Gray and White Paint Samples: While its unclear exactly what role these gray, white and black paint samples took in determining the final paint schemes of the production Micro figures, they are certainly interesting to look at. I've seen a number of these figures, all of them featuring the same three colors. The paint appears machine-applied and, other than the odd coloring, there is no difference between these figures and their production counterparts.

My personal feeling is that they were used to test the masking process used to paint each figure. In other words, they didn't aid in determining the actual colors used in production, but instead helped in devising how one minute body part could be painted one color, while another, adjacent part could be painted a different color, with the least amount of overlap or color bleed.
