Original Artwork for Micro Collection Death Star Compactor Decals: Original artwork is top of the food chain for many that collect Kenner Prototypes. It can come in the form of wax or acetate sculptings, photo-art, paper or wood patterns, or as in this case hand painted designs. This piece of one-of-a-kind original art would have served as the master for the millions of sticker sheets worldwide that eager young Star Wars fans applied in preparation for the fantastic hours of adventure ahead of them.
This particular piece of artwork is for the decal sheet that came with the Micro Collection Hoth Generator Attack playset. The first shot has a very nice comparison to the final production decal.
close-up 1
If you look at this close-up you'll note that the decals were designed at a 1:1 (read 1 to 1) ratio, meaning they are designed in the actual size that the toy decals would later be mass produced.
(overlay lifted)
Here is a nice shot with the overlay lifted where you can see all of the techinal specs. Below is a close-up of the same shot.
close-up 2
It's always neat to take a look at what went into the different stages of the design process. I find it even more enjoyable to take a glimpse into one of the areas most children would have taken for granted.
